MAMA AND JAMES NIGHT

While Jay and Cora were at the Daddy-Daughter Campout, I picked up James from school and told him it was our date night and that he could choose all the things we did. Sometimes it's really fun to give up the reigns and let a little person decide what to do...

We started with a visit to the library;
Followed by some play time at Catfish Row:
Since it was still too early for dinner, we walked over to the new Margaritaville where I let him play games for an hour:
Once it was a reasonable dinner hour (well, we still had to pass 15 minutes on the porch before opening) we walked up to the new BBQ restaurant in town, the Mississippi Barbeque Company:
(My handsome date was happy to find a restaurant that makes Shirley Temples)
On the way home we stopped at the overlook to enjoy the sunset:
We ended the evening with a movie and Halloween candy and a whole lot of smiles!

CLARKCO CAMPING

The night before The Great Scorpion Race, we arrived at Clarkco State Park after dinner, in the dark, to set up our tent and get some camping fun in before retiring early in an attempt to get some shut-eye before my pre-dawn wake-up call... That included a campfire (and s'mores!) and some black light bug hunting (no scorpions down at Clarkco, but we did find a millipede!) before fussing at noisy teenagers at 10:30pm who were yelling obnoxious boy-girl chatter across the lake.
After the race, we returned to the campground to eat lunch and fish, play on the playgrounds, and eventually go for a short hike (my legs needed to move so the muscles didn't totally lock up).
(Cora held out hope for a catch longer than James did - she'd been asking to go fishing for months - Jay even bought them new fishing poles for the occasion, so no more Barbie/Spiderman poles for these big kids!)
(I couldn't keep up with them on the trails... eventually they'd come back on check on me though, so it was ok)
