ALL GOOD THINGS...

After 5 days on the ocean, we decided to walk all over NOLA to try and get our land legs back. That included another stop at Cafe du Monde and some shopping in the French market...
...and a rest for a beer (or cider) at Beer Fest! (not the most creative name for a bar, but at least I knew I'd be able to find a beer there - they had most of the local brews)
Eventually we had to head back to the car, get Robyn to the airport, and get me on the road home. All good things must come to an end, and this was definitely a good trip!

BIRTHDAY AT SEA

I turned 39 today!
Robyn and I started our second day at sea the same way we started our first - with a trip to the gym to workout. I did a couple miles (the rocking of the boat was too much for me to stay on the treadmill any longer than that), then did my second "mini boat Bootcamp". This time I scaled it down (the boat was really rocking) and picked some of my favorite Bootcamp exercises and did 39 reps of each in honor of my birthday. My Bootcamp instructor was proud of me and I figured it would help counteract the Chocolate Extravaganza that was planned for that afternoon ;-)
Birthday dinner back at "our table" (where our waiter said he'd missed us, since we'd been crashing Sandra's family's earlier seating the past two nights). I was even serenaded by our 3 waiters and they brought out a special little cake.
We ended the night back at the comedy club for a double header.
It was a great way to end the cruise and a really nice way to spend my birthday - thank you Robyn!

Meanwhile, Jay and the kids had hidden birthday cards inside the inner zipper of my suitcase and sent me a Happy Birthday video:
I definitely felt the love from near and far on this birthday!

JAGUAR BUS ADVENTURE

Our second port of call was Progresso, where we'd booked the Jaguar Bus excursion. It included a tandem bike ride, Mayan Ruin exploration, and beach paddleboard experience. Unlike Cozumel, where the ship docked in crystal blue water at a port filled with shops and restaurants, Progresso's port was a bit empty (we were the only cruise ship, but there were a couple military ships) and unwelcoming (land was a bit away down a very long pier, though we did discover a cluster of shops that we had to walk through to get from our ship to our tour bus).
I enjoyed the bus ride out to our biking site because I got to see lots of iguanas along the pier, flamingos in the mangrove swamp, and beautiful orange flowers everywhere (which turned out to be almond trees).
We stopped at the salt flats while a couple of the tour guides set up the bikes and took a short walk along the mangrove edge. It was hot, but there were surprisingly less mosquitoes than we'd encountered in the Riviera Maya forest the day before. In addition to the flamingos, we saw lots of other shorebirds
The salt flats had very pink, briny water (which resulted in some very vibrant flamingos out in the adjacent swamp).
Then it was time to suit up and attempt the tandem bike. Flip-flops and a dress? No problem. For our speed on the flat road, all we needed was the helmet ;-)
(There was a dune buggy tour following close behind us. And no, the Jaguar Bus was no air conditioned. It was festive though, eh?)
(Just freaking Robyn out a bit by attempting a selfie while biking - who needs two hands?!)
The bike ride ended at the ruin of a Mayan market, where we saw LOTS of iguanas and spent some time climbing around and taking pictures.

(I never did find out what this profusely blooming orange/pink flowering tree was, but the snake pictured below, that I found in a palm tree, was a Mexican Parrot Snake)
After another drive and a stop at a convenience store to buy beer to bribe the private property owner where we were scheduled to swim and paddleboard, we arrived to palm trees and a beach filled with pretty shells to collect. We both tried paddleboarding, but only Robyn was successful. By this point, my waterproof phone bag was a little steamy and it was getting a little harder to take pictures, so just imagine me sitting on the front of the paddleboard as Robyn rowed me around like a princess :-)
(Yes, I brought some pretty shells home for the kids as souvenirs)
We had a fajita and quesadilla lunch under the palms, then headed back to the ship while telling jokes and singing karaoke on the Jaguar Bus. On our way back through the shops, I stopped to buy a hammock swing and get my picture taken with the Owl Guy that I'd spotted on our way out that morning.
Hair a bit windblown from the bus and legs a little tired from the biking, hiking, and paddleboarding (we managed to get 15,000-20,000 pretty much every day of vacation), but we were ready for another night of fancy dinners, big shows with singers and dancers, and the comedy club. The Triumph did not lack for entertainment and we took advantage of all the fun things!

CENOTE HOPPING

Our first port was Cozumel, though we didn't set foot on the island. We grabbed a tender over to the mainland to join a Cenote Hopping tour along the Riviera Maya. Our tour took us to the Mayan Villiage at Cenotes Tankah, where we swam in three different cenotes and ziplined over a fourth (which was the largest by far - it was like a lake). The zipline was an unplanned "bonus", and while I was scared leading up to each of the three zips, it was really fun (and obviously, beautiful). Robyn treated me to this excursion for my birthday and it was quite the amazing gift - thank you!

The view of the beach (and gorgeous clear blue water) at Playa del Carmen
Cenote #1, where we cliff jumped and swam (and I'd wished I'd brought my snorkel):
Cenote #2, where the bats flew overhead and the little fish nibbled our feet:
Cenote #3, where we ziplined into the water (nobody jumped off the high cliff):
And then we hiked through the forest to the village where we had a traditional lunch, followed by strong Mayan coffee:
After lunch, we went over to the zipline/canoe adventure!
(They gave us these awesome manzanita "hooks" to help turn ourselves back to forward-facing and to slow down near the end of the line - wish I had these at all zipline tours - I hate going backwards!)
After the canoe, we had some time to just hang in the shade...
And by the time we got back to the boat, we took a quick dip in the pool, then dressed up for dinner, followed by a really entertaining comedy show!
