BIRTHDAY PARTY GO!

After all the other GymSouth birthday parties we attended during the past year, James knew exactly what he wanted to do for his party this year. And he wanted a Teen Titans theme. This ended up being super easy as far as planning and prepping (and cleanup!), and the kids just have so much fun running wild at the gym. In addition to his best buddies and our usual amazing group of friends and their kiddos, James wanted to invite all the kids in his class (only a couple showed up, but he was ecstatic they were there). We ended up with a great crowd and we are very grateful to everyone who was able to come out and help us celebrate. James felt very special and loved, and I think he'll be talking about this party for a long time! Thank you friends!!

He willingly posed for a few photos in his Teen Titans party shirt before we left the house, but I couldn't get a toothy grin out of him no matter how silly I was behind the camera. I think he was just too excited and anxious about getting to his party!
Red velvet cupcakes by mama (with cupcake toppers and birthday banner from ETSY), Teen Titan Tower cake by Rouxsters Home of Faydra Cakes, and Teen Titans figurines courtesy of James' toy box (we couldn't find The Silky anywhere...). When purchasing party supplies, they were out of number 6 candles. I asked James what color candles he wanted so we could instead put 6 little ones on his cake, but he picked out the "mystery candle" instead. His party, his choice!
Very simple goodie bags with glow sticks and punch balloons, and James' favorite candy (Smarties) and snack (gummies)
The kids chased us all over and wore us out!
Youngest attendee award goes to Titus (baby brother of Abbi and Hannah, and son of Ms. Terry the 1st grade teacher at Agape)
Adler, Kyla, Talon, Grady, David, Hannah, Hazel, Abbi, John, Grant, Cora, James, Will, Marie (Mason was at his best friend's birthday party), Lauren, Isaac, and Gabriel (and Evie pictured below because I missed getting her in frame here). Coltin and Emma were in attendance as well, but I think they were hiding out in the pit when everyone vacated it for cupcakes... The gym wrote a great big Happy Birthday James on the chalkboard back there and I'm still bummed I forgot to grab a family photo in front of it!
Lots of cute little onlookers while James blew out his mystery candle
Cupcake Bliss. It's a real thing, people.
Evie with a goody bag item: punch balloons are a big hit with little kids!
After the party we went over to The Hat with the Gusts (who traveled over all the way from Madison to attend the party) and the Kennedys. James is pointing to where he wanted Will to sit, but Cora had to bribe Will with candy (he was hungry and tired and in no mood for photos).
They couldn't fit us all at one table, so Jay volunteered to sit with these fabulous four who refused to be separated. Hooray for the giant Dos Equis!
James agreed to wear the sombrero and have the wait staff sing to him. The chocolate and whipped cream covered cinnamon tortilla was a major bonus though.
Once we got home and into pajamas, we let James open his presents (we didn't do it at the party because they only give you 1.5 hours total, and we wanted the kids to be able to play the entire time).
Those feet are getting big...
Cora was his faithful assistant (she even cleaned up all the paper shreds for us!) and every time he had trouble opening something she would give him a "kiss for power!" and he'd get just enough superstrength to power through a wrapping...
Needless to say, he was thrilled with his gifts. He received a Magic Kit, Operation, a couple of science kits (a crystal growing kit and a shark teeth dig kit), a few Lego sets (a City set, a Mixels set, and two Chima Speedor sets) and a Lego book, a Minecraft figurine, a remote controlled mini drone (which Buster and Cannon are equally interested in), and even some cash to put in his piggy bank to use this summer at Disney World. I asked him if I could take a video so he could thank all his friends (I uploaded it to his Facebook event page) and instead he gave me this:
Just a few more days and this sweet kid will be SIX years old! Wowza!

WILDLIFE & OUTDOOR EXPO

The Wildlife and Outdoor Expo took place today (with free admission!) at the Vicksburg Convention Center, and since soccer games were cancelled due to flooded fields (BOO!!), we had time to go check it out.
First stop was the falconry/hawking show, for which the kids lasted about 20 minutes. The Harris's hawks were gorgeous, but the plethora of lecture and lack of action did not impress the kids, though I learned a few things and would have been happy to sit through the full hour.
Cora shot a BB gun for the first time, and didn't like it. She did manage to hit the turkey right in the neck though...
James, on the other hand, highly enjoyed his first experience with a real gun. He grazed the turkey's beak with his shot. I'm just hoping he doesn't ask for a BB gun for Christmas next year...
So much sibling love today (seriously, not being sarcastic) and boy does it make me smile!
Now THIS she liked... shooting plastic fish in a giant barrel with a bow and "arrow" (suction cup)
I always forget that going to these type of events you're VERY likely to bump into lots of people that you know! Small town, few activities. We saw the Jungs, the Beanes, the Kennedys, the Hopkins, and others. Here James is waiting his turn to shoot the bow with Jase, Bridger, and Jacob.
On second thought, I think it's much more likely that he'll ask for one of THESE for Christmas. He's been asking for a bow ever since he started playing Minecraft...
Checking out one of our coworkers collection... (with Isaac next to James)
tortoise shells, fish jaws, sharks in jars, gar skeletons...
I was quite pleased at how many of these skins the kids identified correctly!
Maybe when we're debt free I'll finally get the ATV I've wanted since we moved here 8 years ago... Of course, I want one a lot smaller and less fancy than this one!
Testing out some camping hammocks. Someday when they're older, maybe we'll commandeer the tent and let them sleep in the trees outside...
