MORE EGGS, YUMMY FOOD, AND FRIENDS

We were unable to travel to Georgia for Easter this year, and rather than spend the day at home solo, we welcomed our friends (who also don't have the luxury of living near family) over for an egg hunt and great big lunch, which morphed into an afternoon of kids playing and adults kicking back with a glass of wine. Perfect way to spend a holiday, surrounded by friends and happy children!

Al always seems to end up with a lap full of kids and books...
Don't worry, Jay got better pictures of them in their Easter finery with his Nikon. Photos forthcoming.

Lined up and ready for the hunt!

All finished! James and Manu were telling us how many eggs they found (way more than five...) while Will worried about his sister (Lauren had fallen asleep and was tucked into Cora's bed) and Cora was already busy pulling out the candy. She must have her great-grandma's sweet tooth! That's what we get for naming her after her!
Oh yes, we can cook! Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, brussel sprouts, deviled eggs, bread broiled with cheese, salad, potato salad, hummus, and 3 desserts (chocolate pound cake, lemon cupcakes, and fruit and custard cakes). To say we were stuffed is an understatement. I think it took us two hours to finish our meal...
The kid table. (Leo was still napping at this point)
Yes, I do indeed have three beverages at my place setting.
As soon as we started lunch (a late lunch, but the kids had been filling up on candy anyway, so it didn't matter in the least), a thunderstorm rolled through. We had to keep the kids inside for a while, but once the sun broke through they high-tailed it back outside to ride bikes and burn off their sugar high!

I did not enhance this photo. Lauren's eyes really are as blue as her Easter dress!
Cora is smitten with Lauren
Sophie wanted a turn, but Cora was at a disadvantage heading uphill. Otherwise I'm confident she could have taken her for a ride!
Sweet Lauren fell asleep again near dinner time (yes, we had a lovely full day with our buddies!) and I got my chance for snuggles. She is just so precious.

EASTER MORNING

Just like last year, we hid the kids' Easter baskets and tied a string to the end for them to follow around the house in search of the prize!

The night before (hard to see, but the multicolored string zig-zagged all over the living room)

For some reason, our kids sleep IN on holidays. Just like Christmas morning, Jay and I were up and waiting for them to roll out of bed. We finally gave up at 8:00am and just woke them up. Luckily they didn't hold that against us! We handed over their strings, explained the game, and sent them on their way!

This boy LOVES a singing card...
Multitasking... opening her Easter cards from her grandparents hands-free by sticking her second piece of chocolate of the morning in her mouth...
Optimus Prime was a huge hit. The Easter bunny did well by James. (Cora's favorite item was the flip flops. As soon as she saw them she yelled "Them are so pretty!" and put them on. Such a girly girl.)
At least James waited  to eat his chocolate after breakfast. We found the Whoopie Pie pan Jean gave us last year and  baked some bunny-shaped scrambled eggs with it.

After breakfast, we cleaned up the house a bit and started cooking our Easter meal!

BUENO BABYSITTING

We had the chance to hang out with Manu and Leo without their parents this afternoon/evening so Sophie and Alex could go out and celebrate her upcoming birthday. Our kids couldn't have been happier to have their buddies over to play, and we were thrilled that they all did so well together the whole time. As all parents know, kids have their good days and their bad days, and we felt lucky to catch all four of these cuties on a good day!

Going in circles to avoid the rain
...mostly. Leo was bound and determined to hang out in the cold rain and splash in the puddles. Give that boy dirt, water, and a stick and he'd be happy for 8 hours straight.
Our little glider can hang tight even in a dress!
Playing doctor
I felt so safe having all these doctors around...
Batman break!
Bedtime movie wind-down (watching 'Rise of the Guardians' for the 3rd time this weekend). Cora had been sitting on the other end of the couch, and Manu nudged her with his feet, motioned for her to come up and join him, and she scooted on up to snuggle with him. Little player...

ERDC EGG HUNT 2013

Playing the egg toss game with Will
Balancing eggs on a spoon game
There 5 minutes and already eating candy...

Let's get this hunt started before it starts raining!
