WINNERS IN OUR BOOK
James read over 1 million words this year, but missed being a part of the official Millionaire's Club by 1% on his average test scores (84% vs 85%). Cora read over 800,000 words this year, which is double what she read last year (the word requirement jump from 250,000 to 1 million words between 2nd and 3rd grade is really tough for most kids). In our book, they're both winners and we're proud of them for working so hard and LOVING to read, so to encourage that and reward them, we let them ring the bell after school and promised to take them for their own High Heaven and pizza celebration!

THIRD GRADE STATE TESTING
State Testing is a BIG DEAL for 3rd Graders in our state (they more or less determine the school's "grade"). Our school makes a huge effort to encourage and support the kids during this time with sidewalk chalk, mini celebrations during the week (and after things are finally done), and even special notes from older students (this year Cora and Cara Beth received a note from their favorite Cadette Girl Scout friend, Bailey). It's an extremely stressful time for most of the kids, and while I wish there wasn't so much pressure on them, it's nice that they are given so much positive reinforcement both before, during, and after testing.
(Cora also won a prize in the daily drawing)
