After the Awards Ceremony, James elected to go home with Gramma, but Cora stayed at school for the 2nd Grade Splash Party. They rented a couple of big waterslide-bouncy houses, ate popsicles, and had some fun with the school friends that they won't see much of over the summer!

BOWMAR AWARDS DAY
The kids had their Awards Day this morning so we all went to school together!
They did the 1st-3rd Graders separately from the 4th-6th Graders and they also kept it really simple (a few citizenship and leadership awards, AR awards, attendance awards, and good grades awards), so we were in and out in just 30 minutes or so (if you've attended an awards ceremony where every kid gets something, even from "special area" classes, you know why we were pleased)!
Cora received recognition for reaching the Mini Millionaire's Club (they don't give out grades awards for 1st and 2nd Graders because they don't earn letter grades, but she did receive solid 3s in both Math and ELA - her teacher was so proud of her!):
James received awards for A-B Honor Roll (he worked SO HARD this year), reaching the Millionaire's Club (only 3 boys in 3rd Grade made it!), and reading the highest number of words in his class (he was the only Millionaire in Mrs. Smith's homeroom!)
He showed Gramma his AR Bear after the ceremony:
We wrapped up our first year at Bowmar with all the happy feelings!
Mrs. Njiti's 2nd Graders won Top AR Class for the school year:
The kids are more than ready for summer break (and we'll admit, so are we... summer is just so much more laid back than the school year and seasonal extracurriculars), but they certainly had one of their best school years yet and we're really happy to be returning to Bowmar next year!

2ND GRADERS AT THE ZOO
Mrs. Njiti and Mrs. Flanagan's 2nd Grade classes took over the Jackson Zoo today!
(The mamas I know that volunteered to help chaperone the field trip took lots of photos that they shared on the Bowmar Parent Facebook page)

FIELD DAY 2018
I spent the majority of my Friday (after giving an important presentation at work) at school cheering for the kids at Field Day. The 3rd-6th Graders played in the morning and the little kids were after lunch (when it was even hotter). The event was so well organized and attended by so very many parents - very different from our Field Day experiences at Southpark in prior years. I had given both kids $5 to spend at the PTO snack booth, so there were plenty of sugary treats enjoyed (despite each classroom's efforts to provide healthy alternatives and plenty of cold drinks). We had a pretty fun day!

The Obstacle Course team: Joy, Mikayla, Avella, Darcy, Ethan, and James
James' team was pretty far behind, but he made up good ground in his anchor position by pioneering the backward scoot... Everyone before him had been struggling to pull themselves forward on that little wheeled boardwith their feet, and he simply turned around and shoved off! His GATES teacher yelled "That's why he's in MY class!" and I had multiple parents and teachers come up to me afterward and tell me all the older grades were taking notes for their turn at the obstacle course, and wanting to know whether Jay or I were engineers, since James is such a good problem solver - it made me beam with pride, but I can't take any credit!
Darcy did not leave James' side all morning...
I thought their Field Day shirts were really sweet!
Mrs. Smith and her 3rd Grade Squad
Next up was Cora's turn! Jay was able to stop by for some of it between work and heading to Jackson for Zoo Brew, and she was ecstatic to see him (when she wasn't busy with her friends).
Here come Mrs. Njiti's Jaguars!

Finishing up the day watching the tug-of-war (and getting into poison ivy nearby...)
