BACK TO DANCE 2018

Summer has ended, school has started, and dance Wednesdays (and Thursdays) have returned! The kids were excited to get back to class and see all their dance friends and teachers today. Cora had Contemporary and James had Acro, and they both had Ballet. Tomorrow will be Boys Dance for James and Acro for Cora.
(She was not pleased about having to wear James' old black ballet slippers - pink is dress code for the girls, but the ones I'd ordered her ended up being a size too big and the replacement pair didn't arrive in time for class.)

FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL

STEM experiment in Cora's Science class:
James' called me out while writing paragraphs... and really loves video games:
All about James:
Playing on the playground every day after school this week (and thankful for sweet mamas who bring enough popsicles to share with anyone who sticks around):
(Autumn, Julia, and Cora - tree climbing is her favorite activity after school)

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 2018!

No change in career goals, but they've certainly gotten taller in the past year!
(James, especially, looks SO MUCH older this year!)
She requested her picture with the lighthouse, but James declined and made a beeline for his classroom. He gets a locker this year (since they share desks between classrooms, the lockers are where they keep their books and extra supplies).
(Darcy and James - they got to pick their own desks on the first day)
Cora, Kennedy, and Katie (above), and counterclockwise from Cora (below) are Corbin, Cara Beth, and Presley.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT 2018

It's Back to School Night!
I loved seeing this quote posted big and bright at the front of the school!!
Waiting for the all-clear to be allowed down the halls to find their new classrooms!
(Eriam is one of Cora's favorite boys. We're pretty sure he likes her too, but obviously she's a bit much at times...)
(Posing with Autumn and Cara Beth - two of my favorites!)
James has a new-to-the-school teacher this year, Mrs. Jones (she's a runner and will be doing St. Jude this year), and Cora has a new-to-3rd-grade teacher, Ms. Nichols (she's getting married this October and coaches the Warren Central High School cheerleaders). James has some good buddies in his class (including Darcy), but not Coltin, which bummed him out (and we're all disappointed that Ivory, the bully, is in his class again). Since Cora is friends with everyone, she didn't care which class she got, but we're happy to have her with Cara Beth and Katie this year to switch up the Grace/Anna Paiten drama (those two have been best friends since they were babies and there was a good bit of playground drama when Cora joined their gang last year). Cora will get to spend half her day in Mrs. Smith's class (James' homeroom teacher from last year) for ELA and Social Studies, while Ms. Nichols teaches Math and Science. James will spend half his day with Mrs. Fraiser (who used to teach at Southpark up until 2 years ago) for ELA and Social Studies, as Mrs. Jones is the Math and Science teacher. I'm excited that they both have young homeroom teachers, mostly because I know they are more adaptable and interested in using technology for communication (thank goodness for the Remind app).
We're looking forward to another awesome year at Bowmar!

NEW SKILLS

I bought the kids a set of plastic knives so they can help out more in the kitchen (when they want to) and Cora was very happy to help prep her favorite fruit!

COMPLIANT CATS

Sometimes I wonder about these two...
...I mean, these four!

SHARK WEEK!

We dressed up for Shark Week this week and made sure to watch at least a couple hours each evening in honor of Stephen. I really missed texting with him about some of the shows we watched and facts we learned.

LAUREN'S BIRTHDAY PARTY DAY

After the party we went to the Kennedy's house to catch up with our friends and let the kids play. It was a nice relaxing day!
(And apparently a very tiring day for James...)
