During our 2 free mornings at the end of this sampling trip, we went hiking and birding of course! But don't worry, we spent our afternoons entering data, checking pollinator traps, and working on other projects with looming deadlines...
Wednesday morning we went to the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area (with the BLM) and hiked about a mile and a half along the San Pedro River. I saw 3 new life birds: the Gray Hawk, Brown-crested Flycatcher, and Lucy's Warbler. I didn't get any pictures of them, but I did get pictures of a Vermillion Flycatcher (we probably saw a dozen of them while we were there) and a Summer Tanager through my binoculars: 
Thursday morning we got up really REALLY early and drove out to Chiricahua National Monument. We hiked a 7-mile loop trail out to the Heart of Rocks, saw many amazing views, and 3 more new birds: the Red-faced Warbler, Townsend's Warbler (surprised they're still migrating through!), and Hepatic Tanager.
