Team Lindsay is very close to adopting a dog...
We don't want a puppy, as we would rather start with a dog who is 1-2 years old (and already house-trained!), and we're looking for a small-medium size dog (one that will do well inside) that is a light shedder (or at least has short hair). We're not looking for anything too specific as far as breeds, but while looking at potential adoptees online we've been leaning towards terrier mixes and Scottish breed mixes (I grew up with an amazing Heinz 57 Scottie mix and Jay just has an affinity for Scottish breeds due to his heritage). We've been talking with James over the past couple of months about what it takes to care for a dog (in our opinion, a lot more work than cats). We've been visiting friends with dogs, checked out a local shelter, we're reading books with dogs in them, and have spent a significant amount of time looking at potential adoptions online, so we think we're ready to start meeting potential dogs and hopefully adopt soon.
Now if we could just convince Cora that dogs are not scary monsters out to get her...

If none of these dogs work out, we'll be putting in our application locally. We're just having a harder time finding small(ish) dogs in the 'Burg. The ones here all seem to be great big hunting dogs or teeny-tiny Chihuahuas...

I once read that the smaller breeds a adopt quicker and easier. Which makes sense, so probably also why you aren't finding many. Having dogs my entire life, I definitely think mix breeds are the best in terms of health (IMHO). Remember, Jack Russells are hyper and require a lot of exercise/play (speaking from experience with Alisha's). Great dog, just required a lot.
I didn't mention, I'm excited!! Let us know if we need to dog sit. ;)
