James worked SO HARD this past quarter (especially the past two weeks, when it became a full-on family afair) to push his yearly word count over 1 million! He set this personal goal back at the beginning of the year (we found it in his GATES papers) and was almost halfway there by Christmas (485K words) and the end of the first semester. He faltered in the third quarter though (when school got harder and he failed an 80K word book's AR test that had taken him 4+ weeks to read), reading just 125K words and ending T3 with 610K words. We told him that we didn't think it was possible to reach 1M words by the cut-off date of May 11th (which gave him only 7 of the final 9 weeks of school to get there), but instead he decided to double down and read over 400K words. We helped a lot during the final two weeks (we encouraged him, Cora took up some of his chores to give him extra reading time, and during the final week we read The Spiderwick Chronicles as a family), but he gets ALL the credit for setting the goal and reaching it, and we are extremely proud of his hard work.
