James' Ballet 1A class spent 45 minutes of their 1-hour session at the barre today. I know this because he peeked through the curtains and saw me sitting outside the door, so he discretely pushed the curtain aside with his toes so that I could watch. They worked really hard on their form, then did strengthening exercises, before spending about 15 minutes practicing moves across the floor. I've since inquired about the Ballet 1A class format (out of curiosity, since I've never seen them spend more than a few minutes at the barre before) and have learned that the 1-2 years they spend in 1A are critical for learning the techniques they'll use in the coming years (if they stick with dance).
