The Kennedys came over to pre-celebrate the 4th of July with us in the form of food and fireworks! The kids hadn't seen each other since Cora's birthday party a month ago, so their excitement level was a little too high at first (as in, they spent at least 20 minutes running around the house in circles screaming). We tolerated it as long as we could, then pulled out the coloring implements to tone them down. Worked like a charm, thankfully.
Why sit at the table to enjoy appetizers when you can congregate around the counter or sit on the floor (and get covered in kids and pets)?...
It was pretty hot and buggy outside, but we braved it for a bit so that the kids could get a little more energy out. Rather than bike or play on the swingset though, they spent their time catching tiny toads and sending them down the "frog slide" they made (in the big pile of dirt that has lived in this location since James' 5th birthday party last year...)
Eventually they migrated over to the zipline, so at least there was some energy burning activity.
After a yummy BBQ dinner, we set off some small fireworks in the driveway (starting before sunset so that the kids wouldn't be up too late two nights in a row).
James got to light his first firework. He's now hooked.
Watching him run away at top speed after lighting it was highly amusing! And watching Cora "hide" from the boom was pretty amusing too (not sure how many fireworks she actually saw explode, since I caught her with her eyes shut a bunch of times).
Sparklers for everyone!
She picked out her own footwear today...
