Today we hiked up and over the mountain at Smith Rock. We saw climbers on the "Monkey Face" and beautiful Violet-green Swallows (another new species). It was hot and the climb was steep (hard on the knees on the way down), but the view from the top was worth it. It was amazing! We could see 5 snow-capped peaks off to the west! On the way out, we saw a bunch of groundhogs, but they wouldn't cooperate for pictures (too skiddish). Oh yeah, and yesterday on the way up here (via Century Drive and Lava Island Falls) we saw a Spotted Sandpiper, Red-naped Sapsuckers, and Pygmy Nuthatches.
