Unlike last year (when James bumped his head falling backwards off a bench and we had to give up and leave after just a few shots, then buzzed his hair over the following weekend and thus didn't want to retake his portraits as planned, so we had only two good photos from the entire shoot), James' 4-year portrait session went amazingly well. I'll admit we double bribed him (take some good photos for daddy and we'll take you out for dinner AND ice cream afterward!), but it totally worked. He posed, he smiled, he acted silly, he gave us some serious shots, he followed direction, he behaved, and the lighting was absolutely perfect (late afternoon). And we made sure we took him to Mr. Downey for a haircut a couple weeks prior so there would be no temptation for his parents to interfere with clippers...
Since James' portrait spot (each kid has their own spot in the military park, not that we initially planned it that way, but we seem to like returning to "their" spots each year) is on top of a very steep hill, I stuck Cora up on my back in the Beco to keep her out of trouble. Worked like a charm, and she was thus also not a distraction, but instead a good helper to get James to look at/towards the camera.
Anyway, here are our favorites from this year, none of which have been edited by Jay yet, so whichever photos we choose to frame might look a little different as far as brightness/contrast/color/touch-ups when we upload them to Snapfish (so grandparents, let us know what YOUR favorites are!)
And now for some of his sillier poses...
Once James got focused on superhero poses, we let Cora out of the Beco to join him for some jumps:
