After work today, we grabbed the kids and some slushes, and headed to the outdoor pool (for the first time this season... we're such slackers!)
Cora spent a lot of her time at the diving board, watching (and learning) from the big boys. I spectated from the side (too long a line for me to hold the kids up by taking a turn) and was very pleased to see the teenage boys cheering and clapping for her as she attempted to copy their spinning tricks and backwards jumps... By the time she asked me to take video, she was getting pretty tired (all day at Daycamp, including swimming at their indoor pool, then a couple hours of additional swimming out in the sunshine will do that to a girl) and doing her "float on my back for a second while I rest" move. The big boys cheered when she did the backstroke though, and never once looked impatient when she took a little longer to get out of their way. Kudos to them.
While Cora was diving, James and Jay were watching from the deep end. After a little while, I noticed that Jay had convinced James to swim from where he was in the center of the deep end, over to the edge, and back again (then over to the rope and back again). This is a huge step for him, since he usually clings to an adult for dear life if he knows he can't touch the bottom, so we are very proud! Again, he had done it a few times already and was getting tired by the time I'd walked over to retrieve my phone to take video, but Cora's sweet, encouraging words just melt me. She knows how James struggles with confidence in the pool, and she was just as proud of him as we were!
