DIVING SUPERHEROES AND PRINCESSES

Our little divers are getting better each week. They've both learned to use mama or daddy's leg to "climb" down to retrieve their diving toys, with Cora being willing and able to do so in the deep end. James has figured out that jumping in from the side of the pool gives him enough momentum to hit the bottom and retrieve his Avengers, but he'll only do it in the shallow end where he knows he can stand if needed. I think if they weighed more they could just dive down solo, since they seem to have the form figured out, they just don't have enough "sink" in them or power in their legs to push far enough below the surface...

We're currently on a bit of a schedule this summer, with mama taking them to the pool on Tuesdays after school and daddy taking them on Thursdays (since we both run in the morning now, we don't have to hit up the gym in the afternoons), and everyone going together over the weekend. I've been pleasantly surprised at how well behaved and careful the kids are (usually, not always) when at the pool solo with one parent. I recall being on constant alert last summer, even with the Puddle Jumpers, so it's nice to be able to trust them to swim well, jump far enough out from the side of the pool to not smack their heads, stand or back-float when they get tired, etc. And you just gotta love summer swimming to keep cool! (Getting our $0.25 Icee refills on the way there doesn't hurt either!)
