Saturday afternoon was dress rehearsal and Sunday afternoon was the recital. As expected, dress rehearsal took forever and mostly involved sitting around the dressing room awaiting our turn, but the girls all behaved and seemed to have fun coloring and watching videos and practicing their dance moves together. Cora and I escaped the confines of the hot room to walk around outside and take pictures a couple times. The accessories went on right before the girls got on stage, so our photos were without. Since you thus can't tell for yourselves, in the first photo Cora is a reindeer (I asked her to pose like a reindeer and that's what she gave me... and no, they do not do that pose during their dance, and I have no idea where she gets her flair because it sure isn't from me!) and in the second photo she is a donkey. Pretty cute for a donkey, eh?
Here are all the "Friendly Beasts" (the 4- and 5-year-olds got to perform together as donkeys and sheep for one of the manger scenes):

First up was her "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" tap number:
(She asked me for a photo shoot and then proceeded to give me these poses, and about a dozen others. Her self confidence is a thing of beauty, eh?)
Waiting in the hallway for their turn to go behind stage (there were 15 little squealing girls that us "dressing room moms" tried to calm and quiet - not an easy task):

Intermission (and sugar/caffeine snack time)
Back in the hallway with Jordan and Hazel for a short photoshoot before their "Friendly Beasts" ballet number. These girls were good sports having their show numbers spread between the first hour and final minutes of the 3-hour show... That's a very long time for little girls to be relatively still and calm (and stay clean and not mess up their perfect ballet buns).
From my angle, it seemed the little donkeys had a hard time remembering their moves (they did better at dress rehearsal), but they tried hard and they were unbelieveably cute up there.

RiverPointe puts on Christmas shows only every other year (thank goodness, because December is a pretty busy month as it is!), but they always do a spring recital, so as fun as it was to see all the girls out there, I really think someone(s) should tell them that it would be nice to have the Christmas show be a LOT shorter... Three hours is too long for spectators and dancers alike (the little girls got bored/tired/hungry and the big girls got overheated having to perform so often - and then they had to do it all again for the 6:00pm show). They could reduce the number of solo performances by the older girls and combine more of the younger classes (in my opinion) and still have a wonderful show, just sayin'. I'm glad we got to do it though and Cora certainly loved the experience, so there's that. And she now has another costume to add to her dress-up closet, which is a major bonus in her world!
