James is playing his first team sport this spring - soccer! He's in the U4-U5 league with the Vicksburg Soccer Organization. Practice started on Friday and his first game was today. It was icy cold (and even snowed a bit during the game!), but none of the kids seemed to care. James had so much fun that he smiled the whole time he was playing and cried both days when it was time to leave. He seemed to pay pretty close attention when he was given direction, but when it came time to chase the ball he tended to hang at the back of the pack, not sure yet (or unwilling) to snatch the ball from the opposing team. He sure ran fast though! His teammates include Manu and Will (and soon Coltin!), as well as one of my coworkers daughters, Kalista (she's our ringer - the oldest and most aggressive), and a few kids that are soon to be new buddies (Mason, Marley, and Lanier). Their coach is Alex (Manu's dad!) with Jay as the assistant (though at times I saw at least 4 of our parents on the field to guide the 3-6 players - too funny!)
I had a little too much fun playing with Jay's fancy camera, so here are a whole ton of photos to commemorate this spring into soccer weekend!

| Somebody was cold (abominable snowman?) and jealous that she couldn't play, but she sure did behave like a superstar and wait until practice was over to rush the field! |
Post-game victory tunnel (reenactment). And no, they didn't actually win. They don't keep score in these U4-U5 games. They don't even have goalies. It's just a bunch of cute kids chasing the ball and beginning to learn about team sports and cooperation. Plenty of time to learn about competition in future years!
Our cute little buddies after the game (Will, Manu, and James, just in case you don't recognize them under all those layers and hats)!
