Gramma arrived yesterday in time for dinner, and to the news that James was diagnosed with strep this afternoon. He woke up early (which he tends to do in the summer, due to the early sunrise) and seemed a little warm and a little off, but he said he was fine and his temperature was normal. A few hours later though (while I was in the field bat sampling), his teacher discovered a fever and he started saying he didn't feel good and wanted to go home. Jay finished his lunch-time tempo run to the sound of my phone call, went straight to pick him up, and then took him straight to the doctor (mostly because Gramma was due to arrive and we needed to get him on meds ASAP if they were needed). It took a couple hours to be seen (not normal, but our doctor was out, and our favorite replacement doctor was out, so they had to wait in line for the nurse practitioner), get the strep test confirmed (and for James to receive a big shot in the bum), and fill the prescription. By the time I arrived home with Cora (after dance class - she had the opportunity to go twice this week, to get some extra practice before her recital this weekend), we were all exhausted. Jean arrived to lots of hugs and kisses, then a whole lot of lazy couch sitting and an easy pizza dinner. Hopefully she won't catch James' sickness and neither will Cora (we need our little star performer to feel good for her 6+ hours of rehearsal and recital). Luckily for James, that nasty shot did what it was suppose to and he feels a lot better today. He never had a sore throat and barely a fever to detect, and his appetite hardly faltered, but he still had to stay home today to ensure he didn't get any of his (other) classmates sick (I say "other" because half the class is already out with fever and/or vomiting...) Cora got to stay home in solidarity (and because she would have been ridiculously jealous if James got to be home alone with Gramma all day!)
Books and pajamas and grandparents make everything better
