New animal (and vehicle) noises that James makes and associates correctly:
Cow = moo (moe, oom, or mome)
Kitty = meow (owe, or mowe)
Bird = tweet tweet (teet teet, or sometimes eh eh eh eh - like a crow)
Bee = bzzzz
Elephant = (well, I can't exactly SPELL it...)
Fish = (blowing bubbles)
Cars/Motorcycles/Trucks = vroom vroom
Fire Truck = wow-awow-awow
New gestures that James makes:
- Puts his arms out with his palms up to signify "I don't know" or "Where did it go?" or "Who's there?"
- Waves his arm in a circle to indicate the rotors of a helicopter
- Zooms his arm past his body to indicate the flight of a plane (or bird)
Other random things that James has learned over the past few months:
- He is learning some colors at daycare, but the one that has really stuck is blue, and he can point to something blue in a book, or pick out a blue block from the pile
- He likes to put things away (toys, books, shoes, kitchen utensils, etc.) when asked
- He can walk up the stairs without crawling (with or without our hands or the rails as guidance)
- If we tell him something is garbage (or "Yucky, throw that away"), he'll put it in the trash can
- He steals our cell phones and holds them up to his ear (or sometimes the back of his head...)
- He knows how to wipe his face and hands with a washcloth or paper towel
- He can blow his nose when asked
- He can point out most of his body parts (nose, eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, toes, foot, hand, belly, belly button, head, hair, and even his boy parts)
- He can work the little handheld vacuum (and ASKS to use it - we don't ask him to)
- He likes to help us buckle him into the carseat by holding one side of the chest strap while we bring the other around to snap it together
- He will steal Cora's burp cloth and use it to wipe her face (or to wipe the floor clean)
- He bobs his head or pretend sneezes whenever Cora or Jay or I sneeze
- If we tell him we're going somewhere, he'll go get a pair of shoes out of his drawer (we still have to get the socks though)
- He will rock Cora in her carseat or bounce her bouncy chair if she is fussing
Things we wish he didn't know...
- How to open ziploc bags
- How to climb out of the bathtub
- How to climb up onto the couches and chairs and coffee table and...
- How to open doors
- How to turn on the TV (and pay attention to it)
I could probably go on, but this is what comes to mind right now. And I will say it again this month, because it's true - the kid really, truly amazes us. It is quite satistfying to watch your progeny learn new things and know that it was you who taught them! He is learning so much, so quickly, that I don't really see the point in doing another update like this. He's getting too hard to keep up with! From now on we'll just post interesting things as they occur...
