FOLLOWING HER CURVES

The official stats are in: 13 lbs 11 oz (50th %), 25" (50th %), and 39 cm (5th %). Cora is following right along her growth curves, so she's doing great. She's a bit heavier than we had thought (based on our home weigh-in last week), and her head is still small. Since she's been in the 5th percentile for head circumference since birth, there is no concern whatsoever though. She just has a little noggin. A very round little noggin. No wonder she looks like a doll...

As we suspected, she has a cold. Just some nasal congestion (and resulting cough), but nothing that won't clear up on it's own. It's not surprising, really, since the rest of Team Lindsay has been congested as well. We can do saline drops and nose suction to help clear her out though (mostly important before bed and first thing in the morning, when the drainage is at it's worst), and we can give her Pediatex to help dry her up a bit (since she's 4-months-old now), so that's nice. She was a very good girl during her exam. She passed her milestone tests of holding herself up on her tummy and rolling over. She got high scores for being such a lengthy sleeper already (the doc was surprised, actually). She smiled and coo'ed and giggled at the good doc throughout the exam. That is, until she cleaned the wax out of her ears for a closer look, then Cora was no longer happy with her. And Cora is not one of those babies where all is forgiven the second it's over and she is picked up. Oh no. She fussed and cried until she got it out of her system. Then she got her Rotateq and the Prevnar shot, and she was mad all over again. Poor baby doll. And she has to go back in 2 weeks for the Pentacel. We were really happy that the doc told us to hold off on solids until 6 months. With James, she had told us at both his 2-month AND 4-month well baby exams that we COULD start him on solids (we didn't), so we're glad to see that she is following the AAP guidelines now and recommending parents hold off on solids until the 6-month mark. Since they also have signs on the exam room doors now showing the APP recommendation to keep toddlers rear-facing until at least 2-years-old, we're hoping she'll also start following the AAP guidelines about intact care. We didn't ask her about it (since it was Cora's appointment, not James'), but she was/is scheduled to attend a urology conference this month, so hopefully she's getting some good info there.

James did come along for the appointment though. He didn't have to endure an exam, but he did have to get the flu shot. He was quite offended that we "tricked" him, but he got over it quickly. Of course, both kids threw fits when we dropped them at daycare after the appointment. They HATE it when they think they get to spend the day with us, then we have to leave them. Makes us feel so guilty too... Good thing lunch starts soon - I get to go see Cora, and James will be napping on a full belly before long.
