Did you guess this one? Then you win.
That's right, we moved Cora's crib out tonight. And Cora. The kids have been SO BAD at naptime and bedtime for the past few weeks, and we've had enough. They talk and squeal and kick the walls/rails and basically just keep each other up for 30-60 minutes each and every night while we (oh-so patiently) lay there and wait for them to doze off (and repeatedly tell them to hush up and go to sleep). And when nap didn't start until AN HOUR AND A HALF after we initially put them in bed this afternoon, we'd had it. We kicked James out and put him in the guest bed and made plans to move Cora's crib back to her room tonight. James lost his roommate and his music, since we only have one working iPod right now. And you know what? They were both asleep within 30 minutes tonight. James got in trouble once for trying to climb his dresser and Cora never made a peep. Which is shocking on so many levels.
For those who haven't been following the Facebook updates, Cora hasn't had a paci for the past 5 nights. We were putting her to bed on Wednesday night, and when she asked for her paci, I teasingly stuck it in my mouth, as I often do. But I noticed that it didn't feel quite right, and upon inspection, found it to be extremely cracked and torn from her chewing on it lately (she's STILL working on those 2-year molars). So I had to throw it out. When I went searching for another paci, that one was equally damaged and also had to be tossed. She only had 3 paci's left (that we know of), and I couldn't find that last one anywhere, so we had to do something we never planned to do with her, and made her quit the paci cold-turkey. (Not to mention, we were going to give her another 6 months before we even tried to wean her from it, poor baby!) It was ROUGH. On her AND us, and James (he tried to calm her, make her laugh, etc., but eventually ended up yelling at her to stop crying because she was making him crazy). The first night, she cried and screamed for over an hour before she finally passed out, even with Jay holding her, patting her back, holding her hand, and singing to her. But she eventually went to sleep and somehow slept through the night. The second night was similar to the first, though slightly shorter in duration of screaming (about 45 minutes). And she STTN again. The third night went well. She was asleep within 30 minutes and didn't even ask for the paci. The fourth night was more of the same. Tonight she asked for the paci, and when I reminded her that they were broken and we had to throw them out, she just let it go! Then she went into her own room and went to sleep without a fuss (with daddy laying on the floor nearby, for comfort's sake).
Hopefully this transition will continue smoothly. Hard to believe our kids are getting so big. No more diapers, no more paci's, no more sharing a room. Next thing you know Cora will be in a big girl bed...
(In other news, yes, James still regularly falls out of bed. Pretty sure the kid will never get to sleep in his bunk beds.) |
