Not in these recent instances though:
1) Shortly after posting a series of photos of James falling out of his bed most nights of the week and stating that we may never move him into a real bed, we went ahead and put his bottom bunk together (with rails on each side to keep him in) to see if it would perhaps have the opposite effect and KEEP him in bed at bedtime (rather than him constantly getting up to play with Cora or roll around on the floor or fetch a toy)
2) Not long after standing our ground against the dentist that we're not taking away Cora's paci for at least 6 months, we ended up having to throw them away due to wear and tear and wean her cold-turkey (something we never intended to do to her)
3) Likewise, after swearing that the crib combined with sleeping in James' room is what finally got our girl sleeping through the night and we'd be crazy to change things up, we decided to move her out anyway and put her mattress on the floor (because the kids had been keeping each other up at bedtime and naptime AND climbing into the crib during waking hours to jump and play, and we were worried Cora would thus climb out in the middle of the night and break her neck)
4) We were dead-set against feeding our kids store-bought baby food (we pureed all James' foods from organic produce and simply fed Cora table food), and yet now at ages 2 and 3 they are obsessed with the little fruit squeezie thingies (and we totally let them have them, since there are veggies in them as well, and James is terrible about eating veggies - and we still blame the purees for that!)
