James' Cub Scout buddy Hayden celebrated his 7th birthday today with a colored water balloon fight and slip-n-slide. The kids went crazy over these balloons (actually something Robyn mentioned to me a little while back, which is genius and actually works - I watched closely, it's just like on TV - you can fill dozens of water balloons in seconds!), but there were two major tear fests early on due to an older tournament-baseball-playing boy who nailed James in the ear (which was already swollen due to a bug bite) and Cora in the eye at close range... Tears are bad enough, but dripping red paint and hysterical kids was almost enough to send us home 20 minutes after the party started! But we stuck it out (and the kids played less with the birthday boy and his rough-and-tumble across the street neighbor and more with each other). On the way home from the party the kids told me that they want to buy their OWN Color Blast water balloons and have a fight with Will and Lauren because they know how to play nice and only aim at the feet. We think this could be a fun Aptos (non-beach) activity with sweet Eli and Addy too (and they come without the color dye as well, which would be nice).
