MOMMY DATE

After taking an extra hour (or so...) after my run this morning to sit and chat with my girls (it was Sophie's last run with us), I decided to give Jay a break and take the kids out on a mommy date for a few hours. We had planned to go to Kidz Jam, but I didn't watch the time close enough and we missed it. So instead we ran some errands, went shopping for random things at TJ Maxx, grabbed some Little Caesars and Bops (hey, they were having a PAWS fundraiser - totally justified), and went to a new to us playground (at one of the local elementary schools). Unfortunately there was a crew of volunteers there re-mulching the main playground and putting together what looked like some new equipment, so we were sequestered to the row of giant swings and the caterpillar climber. It was a bit hot in the sun, but the kids had fun and I remembered how you really CAN get your heart-rate up just swinging the kids... when you're constantly doing one arm after the other... no wonder my shoulders hurt later in the evening! Completely worth it, of course, since the kids kept telling me they were having fun.
The school also has a really large, enclosed parking lot, so when the kids agreed to let me stop pushing them on the swings, I opened the trunk of the van and parked my chair in the semi-shade to watch them bike for a while. Great afternoon, and great way to wear them out! (Too bad we were heading to a party with their buddies though directly after our adventure - no time for napping!)
